Manasvi: Fabric Store in Gurgaon

I've lived in Gurgaon for about 6-7 years now, and have always been irritated that there are no good fabric stores here. I don't mean places like Meena Bazaar where you can go to pick up a fancy suit piece or lehenga. I mean the kind of stores I used to go to with my mom when she wanted to buy stuff I didn't understand like terricot and voile and suit pieces with dainty floral prints for my grandmother. Like a good, old fashioned fabric store.

Oddly enough, in all this time I've lived here and visited the Metropolitan Mall on MG Road, I've never really noticed an unassuming little shop called Manasvi. It's on the second floor, in one of the corners and it's exactly that kind of store. Only better! It's got a huge (very huge) range of prints in running fabric - that's their specialty, though they do also have some suit pieces. They have another shop right next to this one, under the same name, where they keep all their plain cotton and voile and other good stuff. The owners and sales people are really nice to talk to and also very efficient.

I was so thrilled to discover this store because I was itching to buy some cute material and sew stuff myself for my little girl who has discovered that pretty clothes make her feel pretty and girly (had to happen, didn't it?!) I've been practicing my sewing skills. It's not going too well, so the fact that the prices at this store aren't terribly high helped. How much money can you really justify wasting for a hobby, after all?

Anyway, next time you need to buy a piece of fabric, definitely pay this place a visit. If you have other favorite fabric stores you visit often, do leave a comment here.

Hi manika,
I prefer local/street markets to malls so I'm always on the lookout for such places where you can get these kinds of fabrics. You must have been to Vyapar kendra in Sushant Lok. They have several shops that sell different kinds of fabrics. It's a little hard to navigate tho and of course you don't have the mall ambience.

Hi Aparna,

You're right about Vyapar Kendra. For some reason, I've not really explored these places and keep meaning to get away from the silly malls! I always end up taking the easy way out and go the malls bec its easier to handle kids there. When the weather gets better, it will be a lot more fun exploring too.
