Goonj

For a while now, I had been on the lookout for a way to share my kids' clothes, toys, blankets etc. with other kids who would benefit from them. A friend told me about Goonj, which is an NGO that works primarily for street children. They accept contributions of clothes, footwear, toys, newspapers, stationery stuff, and so on and have processes in place to make sure your contributions are distributed where they are needed.

The neat thing is also that it was really easy to drop off my stuff to them since they have lots and lots of collection centers, which are basically run by volunteers out of their homes. Their website has a list of all these collection centers, several of which are in Gurgaon. I found one in Uppal's Southend, very close to my house.

So the next time your kids outgrow their clothes, or you go through a round of sorting through your cupboards, do take a look at the website and see if you can contribute to them. They also accept financial contributions and are always on the lookout for people who can volunteer their time for different activities.

If you happen to know other local organizations that accept contributions for a good cause, do drop in a comment.

Yea, even I dropped off lots of dresses at Goonj collection center. They are everywhere in Delhi too.

Amazing how the little things we do bring so much satisfaction!
