"Big" School Admissions in Gurgaon

My son's preschool did a session on tackling big school admissions for kids recently. I went to listen to what was going on even though my son isn't due to go to big school for another year. The hype around the admissions process is such that even parents like me who never worried about their own school or university admissions are already a little nervous about that interview in 2011! So anyway, I thought I'd share some of the stuff I learnt yesterday.

Getting started:
  • The first thing you need to know is whether your child is eligible for admission this year. The Gurgaon rule is that your child needs to have turned 3 on or before 30th of September this year (2009) to be eligible for admission into the next session, which begins on 1st April 2010. Another way to calculate is that your child should be exactly 3 years and 6 months or more when he or she starts school, that is, on the 1st of April 2010.
  • If this is the right time, the first thing you'd need to do as parents is choose the schools you'd like to apply to. Pick carefully as per the philosophy of the school because if that doesn't match with yours in general, you probably won't be happy with the school once your kid starts going there. So Pathways, for example might be a "good" school, but if you're not keen on exposing your child to a very rich (I mean money rich) school atmosphere, you probably won't like it no matter what their syllabus or how good their teachers.
  • Visit the schools, preferably with your child to get a sense of the place and also to get your kid a little familiar with the environment. This will help when you get to the interview stage because your child won't be in a completely new place on that day. If you have a toddler, you know why this is important!
  • Pick at least 4 schools to apply to. More is better. Don't take chances and don't count on your contacts to get your kid into school. If they fail to do so, you're stuck. So have backups.
Application forms
  • Make sure you don't miss the forms when they come out because chances are the window of time to submit completed forms won't me much - sometimes just a week or so. Keep checking the school websites for updates.
  • When you start filling out the forms, fill in a photocopy first so you get your spacing nice and your final form is legible and neat.
  • Make sure your form is complete. Even if you have nothing to say, write N/A, or mark that field with an X. The first screening of forms is typically just for completeness. You don't want to get kicked out at this stage.
  • Make a photocopy of your final form before submitting it for future reference.
  • Be honest on the form. You'll probably get questioned on similar lines at the interview. So, if you're honest, at least your stories will match!
  • If both parents are around, try to fill the form together so you both know what you're saying and why. It won't look good at the interview if your stories don't match.
The Interview
  • Don't stress.
  • Don't tell your child he or she is going for some sort of evaluation or test or interview. Instead, it might help to say you're going to check out the school and meet some people there. It will help for the child to think he or she is making the decision.
  • What they're probably looking for from the child at the interview is not how much he or she knows but how she reacts to things and more importantly, how you react to her. They're just trying to match philosophies, so if you respond to your child in a particular way when she is asked a question, or if she throws a tantrum, or refuses to interact with the teacher, that tells them a lot. So again, it's probably best to be your natural self.
  • The time of the interview will matter. For example, if it's nap time for your kid, expect it to be a little difficult and try to manage that beforehand by making sure he or she gets some rest and is at least well fed and calm.
I think this is more or less it. If you're going to be tackling school admissions this year, good luck and I hope you find something you like. Also, if you have experiences to share, I'm sure we'd all appreciate that a lot:-)

Every year parents have to go through a lot of stress and hop from school to school to seek admission for their kids, especially in the bigger cities of the country. The question of admissions to nursery schools has been a matter of intense debate in the educational circles during the past few decades. The issue is so contagious that it has now become an integral part of public discourse on education. The issue has engaged the attention of teachers, educationists, parents on one hand and of the media and Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs) working for children’s welfare and rights on the other.
We could feel & understand the plight of thousands of parents around the country in this regard. So we have started Edubition.com, which have initiated a series of School Shows & Admission Fairs called “Schoolex ‘09” to ease out the admission process for the parents as well as for the schools by bringing almost all the schools under one roof, where parents can see, evaluate and choose the right school,do registration, fix interaction time and seek on-the-spot admissions for foundation classes and can also pick up prospectus and other information about various schools and their facilities.
“Gurgaon Schoolex ’09” is the first show in this series to be held in Gurgaon on 05-06 September ‘2009 at Exhibition Hall, Epicentre - At Apparel House, Institutional Area, Sector-44, Gurgaon, Haryana, India. where all the leading schools of gurgaon and around have agreed to participate i.e., Amity, American Montessori, American Excelsior, Anantam, Blossom, Blue Bells, Colonel’s Central Academy, DPS, Euro Kids, Fastrackids,Indus World School, Kidzee, Lancer International, Manav Rachna, Mothers Pride, Meenakshi World School, Open Sky,Presidium,Pathways, Raffles International School, Ryan International, St. PBN Public School, Salwan School, Shalom Hills, Shanti Niketan, Sixth Element, Swiss Cotage School, Sswings, Tender Years, The Scottish High School, The Sagar School, Unison World School to name a few.

So come, and be a part of it.

My daughter will be in school next year , can anyone give me an idea how much (approx. money) should i spare for her admission for any school like DPS/Amity etc...?

Manika said...

Robin, I believe the amount that DPS requires at the time of admission is approx Rs. 72-75000. I guess other schools must be comparable. Add to this the amount you'll be spending on forms for different schools...should put you at about 80k or so. I haven't gone through this process yet, so not sure about the costs though.

Robin Sharma said...

Manika, Thanks a lot for providing information. But just wondering... besides fee strucutre the BIG question is "Which school?" do you have any thoughts to share? I know it's difficult to anser but still just one question " how do parents choose a school?? "

Hi,
I am going to sail this boat ... though I am not sure whether I need to get anxious or not ... guess the sheer magnitude of discussion on this topic makes me wonder ... it does become difficult at times to remain calm and not worry ...
I am hoping to move from Navi Mumbai back to gurgaon ...and I wanted to know if you can tell me what schools would be a good idea to start shortlisting ...my daughter will go into nursery ... and right now she goes to DPS here at Navi Mumbai ... though I am far more keen to put her in the progressive schools (as they say) ... Wanted to see if you can tell me anything about Shikshantar.

Yes now I am in the next jump board of 'WIPEOUT" [the popular AXN Reality Action Show] .. and the pummelling has started ;-)

Since you posted this I am going to use it to fish for some comment on following schools:

- Shriram Aravalli
- Suncity World
- Shikshantar
- Heritage
- Banyan Tree
- Scottish High
- Pathways
- Ardee School

I am esp keen to know WHY SUNCITY has no takers yet .. Hardly hear anyone rooting for that?

Manika said...

I really want to know more about Shikshantar too...was planning to visit in the next couple of weeks. Will post about it if I manage that!

hi guys. My daughter falls short by 2 months for nursery admission by the 31/2yrs criteria followed by all good schools. I wanted to find out do they look for age criteria even if i get her admitted in 1st std in these schools. That way i can admit her in nursery where ever she is eligible right now. Anybody who knows about this.

Dolon said...

Today [6th Oct 2009] there is an article on Gurgaon Schools in the main paper, and their rankings via 'perception' 'hearsay' value mostly of 200 people of which 160 are parents and just 40 are teachers I am given to understand ..

So what's new? No great surprises or eye openers there .. Firstly including Shriram, Moulsari Ave in the Gurgaon schools listing was silly .. it's from 6th onwards .. Parents are more keenly on the lookout for schools in the nursery admissions business this season .. Or am i wrong? That was not the target audience they were looking at when doing the piece. How does tagging it as a top school in Gurgaon help anyone looking to choose a school for their kid??

They will need to apply to the parent school .. which is in Delhi .. So technically it is NOT a Gurgaon School.

Please bark at me if my logic is as blunted as my age currently!!

Secondly how does Suncity NOT EVEN make the LIST?? Someone is sleeping on the job? I am almost beginning to believe that Gurgaon Dons and Paisanos enroll kids there which covers it in such deathly anonymity and lack of any feedback. How else does a school with such sexy infrastructure and efficiency in conducting the admissions process not feature anywhere.

It's so easy to just get a vox populi and pass it off at a SURVEY!!!! Someone never went to school and learn what it that word means.

Manika SORRY I vented on your blog as usual.

Cheers

Hi!

Thanks so much for this valuable information on schools and admissions. But I will be grateful if someone can answer my doubts. My daughter is 2.11 years and will turn 3 on 14th November'09. She is currently going to a good play school in Gurgoan. I checked from various sources that she will not be applicable for admissions as she was not 3+ by sept'09. However, is there any chance I can try my luck despite this in any of the Gurgoan schools now?

The option otherwise would be to make her go to a playschool where she does her pre-nursery and then she goes to Nursery in 2011. But tht would be too late for her.

Please advice.

Hi Kriti,
Looks like your daughter doesn't make the time deadline for this year. Why worry, though? There will be lots of kids like her who will join in 2011. My son is also only two months behind her...he will also be one of the older kids in his class when he joins. In many ways that's an advantage - our kids will be more able, intellectually and physically to handle the challenges of big school and they'll also get an extra few months to enjoy pre school! They have to go to big school eventually anyway, so a few months here or there won't affect them. :-) I'm not sure if the schools will really listen if you want to try for this year anyway, but I guess you could call a couple of schools randomly and check, right?

Hi Manika!

Thanks a lot for replying to my message. I was eagerly waiting for this! Yes, what you say makes absolute sense if I think about the overall development and growth of the child, after all why put pressure of a big school as long as she is having a great time in her play school. Also I am quite happy with her current school - ibambini where she is njoyingthoroughly...Thanks ..I again..:)..Anyhow, I will try calling up a few schools just to ease out my worries!!!

Hi Priyanka,

This question is specifically for you. Were you able to get any feedback for Manav Rachna International School? Becasue just like all the grieving parents who didn't make it to 'THE' schools (Shriram, Suncity, Scottish High), I am now looking for more options and one of the schools we are looking for are K. R. Mangalam, Manav Rachna, Tagore International, Banyan Tree.
Trust me, this is such a difficult decision to make for your own kid so any help/pointers/feedback for these schools will be really helpful.

Thanks.

Dear Parents,

Last week (1st April,2010) we were in gurgaon looking for schools for our kid to get admitted him in 2nd class. We are planning to move from London to Gurgaon. It was quite a experience visting schools. The very first school we visited was Shikshantar in south city. We we apalled to see their admission administrator office. There was only one chair to sit. The lady didn't even have the etiquettes to ask us to have seats. She arrogantly said that school has no seats available for new admission. Although, we did contact her before visiting her. By that time we already had made our decision that we will not get our kid admitted to this school. Our next destination was Shalom Hill International school. Admission administrators were quite helpful and quick to arrange a test for our kid.

Next day we visited American exclesior, pathway and scottish high. My wife who studied from DPS NOIDA made a comment that scottish high is just another DPS with Air Condition installed in it. Pathway was by far the best in terms of size and the surreal environment. The administrator was quite helpful as well. However, we didn't choose that school primarily because we come from middle class family and that's the values we want our kid to inherit. Pathway we thought was for rich people who can afford 3lacs per year per child.

In the end we visited American excelsior where the Principal and administrator were kind enough to take us on school round. After meeting both of them and talking to our friend we have decided to get our kid admitted in this school.

Cheers

Need admission from July 2010 in Gurgaon in Std 2 & Std 5, ICSE preferred.

Any suggestions?

Shikha said...

Dear Manika,

Hi this is Shikha here. I found your blog while doing some googling abt schools in Gurgaon and I must thank for you and all for providing/ sharing such valuable info to all of us.

We are moving to Gurgaon by July and looking for a good school for my kid who is 3 ys old. I did visited few schools in Gurgaon today morning to check out the pre nursery admission seats, infrastructure, etc.

Initially we were keen about ShriRam only but we are not sure about admission confirmation there. Moreover instead of putting our kid in another playschool in Gurgaon (he is already going to one in Delhi since last year), we thought to look for pre nursery admission in a good school.

So,we went to Lancer's International, DPS - Sect 40, Aardee and Sun City World school. We really liked Sun city World School. Suncity World school has excellent infrastructure and innovative teaching concept (they have both CBSE & IGCSE).

Before we proceed I would request you all to through some light on your experience/ views about this school (management, teaching methodology, etc.) in case your child is going to Suncity.

As rightly said by Dolon, I also not able to understand why is Sun city school's name not highlighted in terms of good schools in Gurgaon. Your views please!!

Thx in advance

For those of you who are still looking for a good school.. do check out Ridge Valley School in DLF IV (just behind RidgeWood). Its a very new school but backed by DLF and Learn Today (who run Vasant Valley school in Delhi). Very good infrastructure and I think right now admission should not be a hassle.

Gitesh said...

Hi Everybody,my concern about big school addmission is test & interview children need to face.Do they check the writing skills (and up to what level) of kid for addmission in Prep or they see the knowledge and attitude of kid. What they check in Parents' interview?

How do we know said...

i also chked Ridge Valley Today.

Different parents want different things for their children, so lets list criteria first.

The things that matter to me in a school are: 1. Clean Air. 2. lots of space for children to play. 3. Physical Hygiene. 4. proximity to house. 5. Are the teachers warm? Do they treat children with empathy and love? or are they rude and stern when parents are not around and polite and nice when parents come visiting? 6. I dont want a school where a child has to stare at a screen for 6 hours a day. Blackboards and white boards please. 7. The people behind the school. More than anything else, their staying power.

If your criteria is anything like mine, then Ridge Valley just became my No. 1 school in Gurgaon. My feeling is that with their credentials (Vasant Valley reference), Infrastructure (6 acres) and proximity to residential complexes, they will soon be among the better schools in Gurgaon. (Give it about 3 years)

The Other contends that putting the child there is essentially taking a risk because only the infrastructure is established. For the rest, we are depending on past performance. So that is his devil's advocate role.

Now you decide, and help me also decide..

Hey How Do We Know!
Thanks for your review of RidgeValley. I will be hungrily waiting for more reviews as you start your research because I'm not in a position to do anything first hand right now even though my son is up for big school now too. I'm just going to do as much stuff as possible virtually and then hope something falls into place. Most curious about Shikshantar...I visited them briefly during non admission time earlier this year and loved it. Just an intinct thing I guess. But I'd love to know more about them.

Well it's really interesting all the reviews but Gurgaon offers a wide variety of choice so parents need to decide what they really want ..I came from US and was really aghast by the different schools all promising big things and I did put my two kids in Suncity but I was forced to withdraw looking at the callous attitude of the teachers// My kidsare now in American Excelsior and I am a very satisfied parent as there is a lot of transparency, parental involvement ..What I liked was one could go straight and meet the Director with any problem you face...

We've just moved from USA, our kids are in 5th and 6th grades. After months of agony (research, exams and interviews) our kids will be going to Scottish High. They were selected in Sun City but opted not to.

Scottish High is professionally managed business (mind you other schools are also businesses just not prfessioanlly governed, so over a period they'll decline and decline)..

Scottish offers a holistic program with good education, good sports and extra-curricular activities. The Chairman has a great vision and wants to build something world-class, other have aims to just be a good school.

Sun City is just another 'run of the mill' school run by a builder whose got discounted land and all the executive management cares about is a constant revenue stream.

The fees of both schools are at 1.23 L for one kid per year.

Pathways is good too, but the limiting factor is they don't offer any indian curriculum (CBSE, ICSE).

Make your choice!!

Hi,

I am moving to Gurgaon later this month and looking for a pre-school for my 2 and a half year son. I am looking for a school that is near to sector 56. Please suggest some good play schools. Also, do let me know when(age) will my son be eligible to go to bigger schools. What time of the year do the schools start giving admission forms?
Another question is what is the age of a class 1 student? Is it 5 or 6 generally?

Thanks
Amit

Manika said...

Hi Amit,

Near Sector 56, I can think of Panchatantra as one option. Anand, in DLF Phase I could be another. I'd recommend you look at both. Also, not very close, but the Needs/Galleria area has options like Little Footprints and Intellitots.

For big school, the Gurgaon rule is that you need to be exactly 3 years and 6 months or up when you join school. Which means your kids needs to have turned 3 before 30th Sept of the previous year.

Admissions time is generally anytime after August/Sept and generally winds up by Nov or so of the previous year.

Hope this helps.

Today I went to Lotus Valley Gurgaon and i was surprised to SEE the ARROGANCE of principal. She does not even know how to talk to a person whom she was meeting for the first time. we went to the School for the Interaction session for the Pre Nursery admission. We were told that there will be a interaction session. As soon as we entered the School, there was no one on the reception desk to attend us. After waiting for 10 mins, i went inside school and found that lady who should be at reception was enjoying gossiping with her friends. She came once i asked her we are here for interaction session.
There were 3-4 parents waiting for the same and once she came to the desk ,we were told that we have to wait for half an hour. We patiently waited for 45 mins.
We got our turn after 45 mins wait to meet the Principal. She asked us to have a seat and we thought she would tell us the school teaching
methodology. But to my shock she dircetly asked "YES PLEASE TELL WHAT YOU WANT". My Head blown away and i was under complete shock what she is asking.
We told that we are here for Prenursery admission and would like to know school ideology. She said there is no ideology and asked us to tell what should be school ideology. By this time i understand that this lady
is defintely out of his mind.
I kept my patience and asked how school helps in the overall development of child. She again replied that there is no development activities and it all depend on child. We thought that that there is no need for further converstaion with this lady.
I was so irritated that i finished the conversation and said Thank you . I was so surprised with Principal attitude.
I came out and asked Priyanka and Bhavana(reception desk attendants) that why the session was so brief and not interactive. Both said that this is meeting and our Principal is very experienced to take the deceision in minutes.
I asked if this has to be a meeting why you have not informed that this is just a meeting and not a
interaction. I also told them even meeting for the first time should be in a postive way. It should not be that someone ask
me silly and non sense questions.
I know even if my kid get a call from this school , i will not get him admit in this school whose Princpal
behaves like that. They are not even one year old school and
having such a atttitude.GOD help them

My experience of LOTUS VALLEY was completely different.
I found the principal to be highly dignified and at the same time very approachable. I wud like to share here that my interaction with her(which was thru appointment) was excellent! My appointment time was 2:30 pm (wen the school shuts) and I got late by 20 MINS becos of traffic congestion and found the prinicipal on the main gate outside. Wen i told her abt the appointment and my reason for being late, she readily agreed to go inside with me for an interaction despite of a meeting which she was to attend ! I found her extremely courteous!!! She then, ofcourse patienly briefed us bt
the school ,their facilitators, their philosophy etc . So overall had a great experience interacting with her.
I think wats imp is that u fix a prior appointment with the principal rather than jus landing up like that! also the school in noida is doin very well acc. to my sources! so I think lotus valley is going to be a great school in developing the overall personality of a child . Its thumbs up for me!

Yesterday, I had an interaction scheduled with the Principal and I had a terrible experience. I was taken aback by the rude and snobbish attitude of the behavior. she only wanted praise for her school which is just an year old I believe. when I mentioned that "to be honest, i have less information about the school. Your school seems to be promising. It has a very good infrastructure. Kindly update me about your school methodology" And she rudely said - how can you say that you do not know about the school and then the praise of the school....She even said "Lets argue on this." I tried not to lose my patience and be calm wid her all da time. she mentioned that it is my Imaturity. I magine somebdy you are meeting for the first time behaving like this. after that, no matter how hard i tried she was not responding to me and started talking only to my husband without looking at me. Horrible and Pathetic are the only words I can think of.The receptionist other than Priyanka, took us for a round and tried not answer my questions at all. when I persisted, she gave brief answers. Please do not put child in Lotus Valley as it is headed by such people. They only want us to us that we only like LOTUS VALLEY amongst all schools in GGN.

We went to Lotus Valley School (Gurgaon) with prior appointment to meet the Principal(for the parent-child interaction) and found her to be extremely courteous..the lady at the reception was equally helpful and took us round the school answering all our queries..we are shifting our daughter to this school from another one in Gurgaon with the conviction that our daughter will be happy here.

Hi, multi, you enquired about banyan tree - good academics, very approachable teachers, children going there are happy. ICSE school with a very reasonable fee structure. Go and have a round before you decide on a school.

Hello Manika,
Love your blog and is is so enormously helpful. We just moved here from the US with a 3 and a half year old and another on the way in Jan. I have been going crazy with this nursery school thing. And I can't quite understand it. Right now my kid is enrolled in a playschool in VK where we are staying temporarily but will be moving to GGN next month. Of all the schools I contacted only Ridge Valley and Shalom Hills were open to mid year admissions. I saw Shalom Hills, didn't like it. I donot want to go into a school because its the only option available but I hear some good feed back on RVS...shld I just go with it or wait and put him in a playschool meanwhile. He'll be 4 in March. How much of a long term commitment is this..why are people getting so anxious about it? Am I missing out on something? Thanks for your reply in advance :)

S.War - I definitely recommend Lotus Valley International School as a possible option. I just got my daughter admitted mid-session. Sun City is also a choice (my daughet go through here as well but I chose Lotus Valley). You can read my blog on this subject deyatanu.blogspot.com

S. War,
Thank you for saying good things about the blog; congratulations on baby number 2; and sorry for taking so long to respond!

If your son will be 4 in March, he's right on track to join school in April of 2012. The Gurgaon rule is that he needs to be exactly 3 years and 6 months or more on 1st April. So, if you apply for him now, and he joins in Apr, it's not a mid year admission. However, most schools are pretty much at the end of their admissions process for the coming year now...so you'll have to talk to them...they probably still have waitlists open etc. Some of the new schools like Ridge Valley, KR Mangalam, Lotus Valley etc will probably have no problem.
If you do find a good place from Apr onwards, you still need to find him something to do from now until Apr. I was in a similar situation last year - came back from the US in Dec. I just decided to keep him at home instead of sending him to a pre-school for just 3 months bec I didn't want him to go through more changes and also didn't want to spend so much on a new preschool at the time. It wasn't easy and it was also less time than you have - so you might want to think abt either a pre-school or something like intellitots that also offers other types of classes and activities to keep him busy till then.

All in all - I think you're right not to panic. And check out Ridge Valley - i've also heard good things about them...just bec they're willing to take him in doesn't make them less desirable!:-)

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions.

Hi Dey (I am guessing thats ur first name?:),
Thank you for helping me out. I shall definitely look into LVIS. i saw ur blog. Ur reviews were really helpful and i really liked the fact that u took time to systematically review and categorize the schools. i tried to leave a comment on ur blog itself however found that i cannot do so via my google account which is what I use (u might want to change that if it occured inadvertantly). Hence I am using Living in Gurgaon's space to comment on ur blog.Looking forward to new posts.

Hi Manika,
Thanks so much for the comforting words and the wishes. I spoke to Ridge Valley and they have openings in their classes right now so I do have the option of enrolling him in a smaller class in RVS beginning Jan and he will then 'graduate' with that class to the next one in April. I will be visiting RVS, LVIS and Sun city this weekend.
Yes, keeping my son at home currently when I haven't found domestic help is not an option at all! The move has been quite a challenge for him- Hindi is not our native tongue so he cannot communicate effectively with other little kids here, though he literally 'hungers' for their company. He constantly asks about going back to his old life in the US. My way of dealing with it has been to put him in a playschool asap and encouraging him to interact with kids we meet in playgrounds here in Vasant Kunj(VK has a lot of those which we might miss moving to GGN). He has picked up some Hindi already and hopefully being at this age will learn quickly. I like the fact that i have the option of putting him in RVS in Dec/Jan that way we won't need to put him in another playschool in GGN. Anyway, I'll see how it goes and will post my own feedback on all the schools I have seen here.

Hi,

I just wanted to post my feedback on Ridge Valley School.

My Kids have been here since October 2011 and they are extremely happy with the school. The teachers are excellent and the focus on extracurricular activities is great while ensuring academics as well.

The kids in school all look happy and it is difficult to get them to leave school.

If you are looking for a school for your child which allows them to grow, learn and be happy, then you should definitely consider ridge valley.

Heritage School is struggling with a lot of issues. There is all the infrastructure. They have an auditorium but no annual function. They have playing fields but no sports day. They have teachers but no place to appear for examinations as there are very serious discipline issues.Kids are openly cheating and get away most of the time without doing their homework.Students are mostly very laid back in studies and have a 'SAB CHALTA' attitude. The results of X and XII are shameful.

I was wondering how a School, which doesn't even update the website can be good. Is this the laziness, chalta hai attitude,no attention to detail money issues or what. The website says management team member Mr.Ashok Verma as president who is dead long ago. How can i expect my kid to get better if the school doesn't have the basics and ethics

Hi ,

Thank you very much for such a helpful BLOG. We are going to move to Gurgaon from Germany with our 4.5 year old in September. Like others bit concerned about which school to choose from, where to start and are we already late for admissions this year. Our son speaks some Hindi but fluent in German and English. would that cause problems ?

we are looking primarily in the direction of Rewari/Bhiwadi.

I would appreciate if other parents could help us in deciding a good schooling for our little one.

DON'T GO TO LOTUS VALLEY GURGAON BRANCH PLEASE. THIS SCHOOL IS NOT WORTH YOUR KIDS.
Its a newly open school which has very good infrastructure however the staff is really sad. Principal is always on cloud 9 and pretends that this is THE best school of Gurgaon however has no value to other's time. They pretend that by taking interviews they are only taking limited people however at the end every one gets the admission in this school and if you want to teach and groom your child with the cream of Gurgaon then this school is not for you.

Also if you are applying for a job in this school, be ready to work under terrible people .. Principal and admission In-charge are so rude. Teachers are asked to work on Saturday.. after their shift hours and still never appreciated.

Hi gjain,

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I don't have any first hand experience with either ardee or pathways (though I do have a friend who teaches there and from what she says, it sounds nice, though more expensive than other preschools). My son went to Pallavan when he was 2 and a half. He's 5+ now, so it was a while ago. He went to the Sohna Road branch. I loved it. He loved it. I think it did him a lot of good.

I recommend you visit the schools you have shortlisted and just go with your gut feeling and your vibe to choose. Also, be practical - it's only a pre-school at the end of the day - as long as they're clean, loving, and allow your child to have fun - you shd be fine. So, choose something that's easy for you to get to every day over a big brand name or a place with fancy infrastructure. Just my two cents!

Hi manika ! Finally after a lot of scrutiny I finalised on Pathways early years.. Though the fees structure is slightly steep but I found the personal attention to each kid and each detail alongwith the method of teaching brilliant, the teachers and all the staff do take a lot of pains for each child.. so went ahead.. Am very very happy and satisfied with our choice ! Also know and have seen super all-round results of kids studying in the main Pathways World school. So think it is better to start from the pre-school stage itself.. Thanx a lot for all ur help !

I compltely disagree with the gurgaon rule of 3 yrs and 6 months on 31st March. On the contrary it differs from school to school- for most schools its 3+ for prenursery admission on 30th sep of the academic session. Say your child is +3 on 30th Sep 2014 then he/she will be eligible for admission in the 2014-15 session.

Extremely sad state of affair at Scottish. I had written an email to their chairman and principal, but received no acknowledge----
On Friday evening we got the call that we have to pay the fee by Saturday afternoon 1 PM. We were extremely excited to be part of Scootish High.
As told to us, we reached on Saturday at 12 to Scottish. We requested the front desk lady to please let us have a look at the classroom before we pay the fee, this was very important for us to understand the safety aspects in the classroom (how are desks places, how visible are teachers\students from outside, where are water tanks kept etc. I am sure a lot of moms who have 3-4 years old kid would be concerned about these small things. Though we were sure of larger goals which are fulfilled by Scottish, I really felt it is important for me to at-least take a glance of the space where my kid would be spending most of her time)
Front Desk refused and told us to come next Saturday for the round, for which we explained that we have to make the fee payment in few hours. She said that the round has happened at 10:30 AM today. We asked her that it was never informed to us that round will happen at 10:30 AM). She said that Scottish organizes rounds only on Saturday at 10:30 AM
We were able to understand her situation, but were also puzzled since we were not sure why were we not told during all these visits that we could take a round of the school only on Saturday, and today being Saturday had the lady who informed us of fee payment, could have informed us that if we wanted the round, we can do that at 10:30 AM, and if we came after that any tour request would not be entertained.
Then came "AVP\Operation" and me and my husband, both faced one of the worst conversations we would have entered into. We tried explaining the reason why we would have missed on the tour (as stated above). After a while I realized that may be it's a mix of conversation gap and admitted that perhaps we are wrong in the whole case, but to take this as a feedback that in future batches, it would be nice if Scottish mentions(may be when prospectus are distributed etc) this fact that any parent who needs round of the school can take it on a Saturday at 10:30AM.
To my surprise her words were "I will not take it as a feedback...I reject to take it as a feedback...we are giving rounds, but other schools are not even giving it" (in a tone which showed that it's a great courtesy which was being done by Scottish)
She mentions "This time we have given 24hour of time between information and fee payment, from next year we will do it spot on!!" (her angry voice shouting and this statement was a shocker for me from a person from academic background!)
She also mentioned "I will recommend you not to pay the fee and take the admission...No I seriously tell you not to carry on with admission...I advice you not to carry on with admission"
We left the premises, feeling insulted, cheated and bewildered by language and attitude of a senior staff who is face of the school in front of parents --------- ------ ----After reading this, decide on your own - Do you want your kid to be in a snobbish school (this year we gave 24 hours notice for fees, next year onwards, we will take the fees same day!!) or a learning place which is ready to hear your feedback

Dear Blogger / Contributors,

Its a great reading so far. Please help and comment if any one have a point or a suggestion.

We recently moved to India and have enrolled our son in mid year in a Nursery School in Delhi, (since October 2013) He will be 4 in beginning of next month...March 2014.. He is doing just great in school as per his teachers.

We really liked Kunskapskolan in Phase 1, Ridge Valley in Phase 4, Pathways, One of these school is giving us hard time to take our ward in KG from next session, and others are ok with him being in KG.. I can't name the school here..

What should be our criteria? Should we as a parents of 4 years and few days old, enrol him in KG or make him re-do the nursery just because this school cannot accommodate / take him for KG?

Our point is .... Our kid understands and writes A-Z, 1-20, knows what most of Nursery goers would know at this age, putting him in Nursery all over again will be 'boring for him', !! Please advise as this is getting stressful for us.

Also please rate these 3 schools and advise which school would be better for our son in our scenery.

Thanks in Advance.
