Sports Club in Gurgaon

We've been on the lookout for options for outdoor activities for ourselves as well as for our toddler since I hate the idea of spending weekends in malls which are always a stone's throw away if you're in Gurgaon. Quite by accident, we ended up visiting a place called the Ryder Sports Academy in Ardee City, near Sushant Estate in Gurgaon (enter from Ardee City Gate number 2 and follow the signs.)

It's a nice set up - not too elite and swanky but well done and clean. They offer professional training in sports like tennis, basketball, soccer, cricket, skating, and horse riding for children and adults starting from the age of about 3+. The hours are different for children and adults - adults are mostly restricted to early morning and late evening when the kids are done with their practice. There are trained coaches for each sport and, from what my husband and I have observed, they're a really committed lot. In fact, if you're looking to get your child into pro sports, they offer special coaching for this as well.

The academy is run by an ex national level tennis player called Raj Hazarika, who started off with a branch in Vasant Kunj and now has this one here. He comes across as a true sports buff and has a lot of good ideas for the place. One thing I thought was very convenient is that they even offer buses/cabs to pick up and drop children from their homes to get to sports practice. They also plan to start a gym and swimming pool soon.

My husband has already started regular tennis at Ryders and we're waiting for when our boy is old enough to get on that cute little mini tennis court with spongy tennis balls and toddler tennis racquets!!

I came across this post finding a good sports academy. Could you please put in more details about Ryder's? I specifically want to know how much they charge for the activities. For example training for cricket, to kids of age 11-12.
Are they reasonable?
thanks

Hi all..Im a high jumper and would be passing out of school next month. Im looking for a place with a High Jump Facility so i can pursue it after school. I've tried enquiring at the stadiums in and around but got no help. Any response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My son joined Ryders club three months back for cricket coaching. The cricket coaches are quite good.Since I am working I wanted transport facility so I have payed for that also but the experience has been terrible.I am going through hell.... as at my bus stop the bus has been quite irregular,I was not informed twice about the change of timings and my son had to stand at the bus stop for as long as an hour.It hurts as everybody has a very casual attitude.I went to the Gurgaon office twice to sort out the problem but all in vain.I was told if one child doesn't come who cares etc..My son is very fond of cricket and because of which I am tolerating so much but I feel sad as once you pay the money they don't really bother!!!

Hi Kirti,
I'm really glad you left your feedback on this forum...I hope you're able to sort this out with the Ryder folks...it's a private organisation interested in your business and goodwill so you should be able to either get them to provide better service or refund your money at least. What is their response?

Hey Kirti!
Even my son is boarding the ryder’s academy bus for cricket, surprisingly we never faced any such problem although once or twice my child has missed the bus, but considering the fact that they are covering the inner lanes unlike the school buses, I think it’s a great relief to have a transport service and specially since my son really enjoys going there.
We moved to gurgaon only last year & were worried about the physical activity part for our child as in Delhi there were so many DDA and other areas to play in, then we came to know about ryders, I personally feel that it is a boon to have such an organisation in gurgaon which is otherwise infested by malls & no playing facility for the young ones. In such a situation we should be a little more supportive to such organisations. I think that ryder’s is providing a very good and essential service specially to the young ones.

Hi,
I found out some information about Ryder. But I stay in Sec-22, Gurgaon and Ryder is in Sec-52 which is too far for me :(

Thanks.

I am interested in playing basket ball, and have been playing for the last 3 years. Would Ryder's offer a good basket ball coach?? If not Ryder any other suggestions in Gurgaon area??

iSpacePurple said...

@Krishna
Plenty of basketball courts in and around Gurgaon. Most residential complexes and apartments have one, as do all DLF and Unitech clubs. Finding a coach can be difficult, but you'll get plenty of practice playing with others. You can try out 'Strides', a sports facility next to Westend Heights in DLF City, close to Paras Hospital.

Krishna said...

thnx iSpacePurple! i will surely check it out, any more suggestions on where I could go and play!!

I learned tennis for 2-3 months at Ryders Ggn, I am a former state level badminton player and a very good squash player.
I wanted to learn tennis at Ryders and all that I have to say is that these guys are very committed and train you the way it should be. Please go ahead and enjoy.
The facilities are good with no show offs and down to the basics.
Rest is up to you and your personal committment.

Manika said...

Sulabh,

Not exactly phase II but there's a place called strydes which is on the road leading to phase V, a little ahead of paras hospital. There's a sign on the right side of the riad if you're coming from paras and a little lane going in. I haven't seen it yet but you could give it a shot. Do let me know what you think if you end up going.
Thanks,

I reside nearby Gurudronacharya and just started Tennis at the Vasant Kunj sports complex--probably same owner as of Ryder's.

A friend also suggested Ryder. Do they provide transport facility specifically on weekends and how much they charge?

I am quite new to this place so don't know many others who are into sports. Cricket, recently, got shut down in my office and I am looking for a place to play again. Of course, I don't have a team! So, would it be possible to play somewhere/with someone.

I'll perhaps contact Ryder about the transport thing. Any information regarding other queries will be hugely appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Manika sorry for the late reply actually never felt like logging on this site.I never got any refund for the cricket classes nor for the transport after a lot of argument with the owner we were given back money for 10days only that also for the transport.
Hi Shruti I am glad you never experienced any transport problem with ryder's (hope no body does...)it even depends a lot on the driver/conductor covering your route.....
