Little Footprints for Infants and Toddlers

I've been taking my son to a parent-toddler program that's run by a guy called Jimmy at Little Footprints in Galleria. They also have a day care center as well as a play school in the same premises. In addition, they run summer workshops, hobby classes for kids, and programs such as the parent-infant program for kids 6-8 months and up and the parent-toddler program for kids 16-18 months and up. The focus in the one my son is attending isn't specifically on formal learning since they're really too young for that. They just go for an hour and a half twice a week and have a good time playing with other kids and doing some activities led by Jimmy, who has quite a good manner with kids. A typical "class" starts with a good morning song, and is followed up with a couple of small show and tell type activities, a little bit of arts and crafts, a puppet show or story telling session, snack time, and song and dance. The group size is typically about 4-8 kids, so it's perfect for them to play with each other without being overwhelmed and also easy enough to manage.

I don't think this is a must have for a child's intellectual development. I know my son is just too young to really learn lessons for life at this point. However, he enjoys his little outings and his playtime with his new friends and all the song and dance that comes with it, so I take him. It's also great for me since I get to meet some other moms and talk mom shop with them:-).

The downside is that it's a little expensive for what it is - they charge Rs. 2250 per month for a twice a week class along with a one time registration fee of Rs. 500. (If you join after the 15th of a month, you can pay half the fee.)

If you're looking for similar programs offered by other places, I have heard that iBambini and Pallavan are good, though for slightly older children (2 and up). However, I do not have any personal experience with either of these yet. Do leave a comment if you have had any experience with either of these, or can recommend any other program for toddlers.

One of the best toddler schools is Gymbaroo (divsion of Kangaroo Kids). I put in my son when he was about 18 months old (they accept kids 8months and older till 24 months...then the kid shifts to their play school - Kangaroo kids) in their GK branch (I know they have one in Vasant Kunj...don't know about others). Classes were for 1.5 hrs a day for 5 days a week. The classes were split in 3 parts of 25 min each with 5 min breaks. One part focused on motor skills (playing with balls, blocks etc), the second on creative skills (painting, coloring etc) and the third on language skills (story reading, puppert shows). One family member has to accompany the child. Class size is 8-10 students and each class has 2 very well trained teachers. Fees is steep - 20K for 6 months + a couple of thousand for registration....but it is all worth it when the 18 month old kid demands to go to school everyday (even on weekends and that can be a problem) because he has so much fun there. They also have these fun events like "Dad's day" (Dad has to bring the kid) and "Swimming Day" (They have a small lovely pool and they fill it up with balls etc).

Thanks for your comment, Amit! This place sounds great, I'll be sure to check out their website. Do you know where it is in Gurgaon?

I have a 26 month old son who is slightly shy. He is yet to speak in sentences.I am looking for a playschool for him in gurgaon. We are based in South City 1 and pallavan, idiscoveri and ibambini are far from our place. I visited Pumpkin House and Little Footprints and am now confused between the two. Any suggestions?

hi shuchi,
i'm sorry i can't tell you anything personally about Pumpkin House since I haven't visited it. A neighbor sends her two children there - to the Sohna Road branch - and is pretty happy with it. Ultimately, you might need to go with the one that "feels" better to you...go with your instinct:-) That's what I do when I'm confused about stuff like this.

Good luck with your decision!

I have recently started to take my 2 year old daughter for parent toddler sessions at Intellitots near Galleria. My daughter just loves it and it is a great social outing for her. After moving back from the UK I had been looking for such a program because i did not want to put my daughter in a play school right away. This is turning out to be great solution. The prices are a little steep but it is still worth it. It is at 5217 DLF City Phase IV, Gurgaon.

Manika said...

thanks for your comment, gurgaon mom. Turns out intellitots is the same program as the little footprints one I wrote about. The guy who runs it (Jimmy) has now moved out of Little Footprints and started Intellitots. It was a coincidence that I spoke with him and found out today, right after I read your comment!! Glad your daughter is enjoying it!

Hi! My wife and I are looking for a day care center for our 21 month old son and are considering Little Footprints near DLF Galleria... Any advice on this? Where is intellitots? Close to Little Footprints? Sameer

Manika said...

Little Footprints has a pretty decent day care I think. I did look at it once about 8-10 months ago when I was thinking of putting my son there. I liked it, but changed my mind about putting him anywhere at all for different reasons. I don't have any personal experience with them...but thought they were decent - clean, they serve meals, they help to potty train your child, and the lady who took care of the center (Aarshia) seemed really nice. There's a post I had written on this blog reviewing that and another one called Happy Faces which I wouldn't recommend at all. You'll find it under the Essentials category.

Intellitots is also in that area, but it's not a daycare. Just a toddler parent program that runs for a couple of hours twice/thrice a week.

Hi Priti, I take my daughter for the parent toddler program at Intellitots in the mornings but some of my friends' kids go for the afternoon activity club at Intellitots from 3:30 - 4:30. My friends have been very positive about the program. I think it includes introduction to keyboard, drama and art and craft. It might be worth checking them out. Their website is www.intellitots.in. They are located close to Ridgewood Estate.

Little footprints is in B Block, Sushant Lok 1, Behind Galleria. My son goes there. They have experience on their side. Do check out Pumpkin House and Kara4kids (DLF Phase -1 opp Bristol Roundabout).

Manika said...

Hi Roopa,
Thanks for your comment. Do go and check out little footprints...I hope you like it. I don't know how they are now bec this review is almost a year and a half old now, but it's nice to read Shuchi's comment on it too.
you can also look at Kara (Bristol roundabout)..I haven't seen the place but I believe they have a good reputation.
Another possibility might be Sixth Element...they're a preschool but I've heard they also have a day care. It's off the road that leads from the Palms/Unitech club to Signature Towers...don't know the address but will try to get it for you.
Good luck with your search and do let us know what you decide.

I am sending my kid to Kara for the summer camp. Its decent and I am sure in coming days it will become a well known play school/day care in gurgaon. Its just that as of now its new and is getting over its teething problems. But the effort Mala and her team makes is quite visible. Little footprints is my son's regular school and as I said earlier it has the advantage of being an "experienced" school. I am satisfied with both. I live in south city 1, very close to 6th element but have not heard too much about it so cant comment. All the best and keep us posted on what you choose and why.

Shuchi said...

Also another school for art/dance/music activities apart from Intellitots is Sanskriti run by a guy called jeetendra jain in Sushant lok - 1. Will try to get the address and post it. The guy is really nice and patient but I guess the place is more suitable for 4+ kids.

Priyanka,
I know how you feel! It's quite tough to decide where to send your little one. Have you visited any of these places? My son goes to Pallavan and I chose it based on a lot of things but most importantly just an intuitive feeling that it was the right place. If you visit a few of the play schools, you might realize which one feels right for you.

Let us know what you decide.

While deciding to put my son in a play school. i visited

* Pallavan in Anandgram - has a good reputation, wants to keep the look basic, has lots of green space, one thing i did not like was that some kids were watching TV lying down in a class. Reckon, our kids anyway watch a lot of TV at home, dont want the school doing the same.
* Anand in DLF - 1, looked nice but thought it was too top heavy almost as if the teachers had no say & the lady Anand who runs the school was the be all & end all
* Pumpkin House - Nice ambience inside the school, the teachers & the principal seemed good at what they do. Though they have v less outdoor area.
* Little Footprints - Thought it looked too commercial, not too clean - No.
* idiscoveri - nice clean bright place, getting into Heritage School is easy from here.
* Sixth Element - A neighbourhood school, the staff is friendly, has adequate outdoor area, teachers are good & close to home. This is what I chose finally.
My second choice was Pallavan, did not go with it only coz it was a half hour drive from my place.

Thanks for your comment, Kay! A friend of mine also sends her daughter to Sixth Element and really likes it.

I guess all schools are good in their own way, they all have their own positive and negative points. All of them seem to provide us with those fancy facilities like a pool or horseriding. All this sounds and looks great but what is important is the care and the homely environment which the child needs the most at such a delicate and a formative stage.love, patience, care showered by the teachers is the need of the hour.this makes him comfortable and confident.

Manika said...

Hi Vibha,
I don't know much about kara, but I used to take my son to little footprints, which was run at the time by jimmy and his team. jimmy has a really nice way with kids and his program was fun. he has now moved to intellitots, so i think their program will definitely be good too. the most imp thing for such a young age is how they take to the person running the program and of course, the environment. i would suggest you call the places you're considering and ask to attend one session as a trial. that should give you a sense of what you and your baby like. good luck:-)

Hi Vibha ,

I am a mother of a 17-month old and plan to send my baby to a Toddler program cum daycare from Jan'10. I live in Sohna Road and am looking for some good options nearby.

I usually work from home but if I can get a daycare that can take care of my lil one from 9am-6pm, I could start going to office again.

Please advise.

Manika said...

Soumya, thanks for your comment:-)

Intellitots has also opened a center at Shalom hills school in Nirvana. That's pretty close to Sohna Road, so you could go take a look. There's also iDiscoveri in Park View 1, and they take kids from 2 onwards, but that's like a preschool, not a parent toddler program.
Good luck!

I have a 23-month old daughter who is currently going to a creche in Phase V, Wellington Estate...my daughter is pretty active. She makes complete conversation with us...this creche has done her a lot of good.

I need to however start thinking of a good playschool around Phase V. The ones I have shortlisted are:

1. Indus World School

2. Sixth Element

3. Anand

4. Little footprints

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Manika said...

Hi Vibha,
I don't know anything about the first one on your list, but have heard pretty good things about Sixth Element (a friend's daughter goes there). Have also heard good things about Anand, though I believe that's a lot more boutique and exclusive, which I have an inherent dislike for (personal opinion). Little Footprints again seems pretty good on the outside and I do have a couple of friends who have recommended it, but I don't have any experience with it.

Sorry, I haven't been very helpful by giving you avergage half baked reviews of all the ones on your list!! Hopefully someone else on here will have personal experience with these schools.

Meanwhile, it would be great if you could write a bit more about the daycare that you've been sending your daughter to - perhaps some other DLF residents would find that useful:-)

hi,

I am a mother of 3.5 year old boy. I am looking for a preschool and day care combination for my son.
We just shifted from US and looking for a good place which has facilities for medical first aid too. We are located in Orchid Petals on Sohna Road so options in the vicinity will be more suitable.

Thanks in advance.

Soumya said...

Hi Tuhina,

Do take a look at Pumpkin House which is across the Omaxe mall, on the other side of the main road. Walkable distance from Orchid Petals and though no personal experience, their site looked okay. Please check it out and get back with your views please. My son's 18months old now and I shall need to hop onto the bandwagon soon.

We just relocated from US this weekend and looking for admission for our son who is 3.5 years old.
We came to know that most of the schools in Gurgaon have already closed admissions for next academic year.

Please advise on good schools that may have still some vacancies or will be willing to consider this case.

Thanks in advance.

Manika said...

Hi Tuhina,

If you're looking for a preschool daycare combo, you could go look at 6th element...i've heard good things about it but not been there myself. it's on the road leading from the palms to signature towers (don't know what it's called). For big schools, i think you're right that all major ones have closed admissions for this year. but i guess you could go talk to some of the ones you're interested in and explain your situation - they may be willing to make exceptions in cases like yours.

you could also look at pallavanjali, which is only up to class II for now but it's certainly an option for this year and you can apply to big school at the right time next year. pallavanjali is the school attached to the preschool pallavan in uppal's southend (behind omaxe mall and right next to where you live). the preschool is very nice - you could go take a look.

hope this helps! good luck:-)

Hi Deeksha,

Pallavan is a good option for you on Sohna Road - here's a review I had written of it when my son started going there last year: http://livingingurgaon.blogspot.com/2009/04/pallavan-sohna-road.html

Anandgram isn't a playschool - it's the branch of Pallavan that's located at Anandgram on MG road - nice, I believe, but really far for you.

Hope this helps.

I have 27 months old twins, and I am looking for a decent pre-school for them. I visited Kara4Kids and Pallavan, both in DLF-Ph I.
And I found both the schools in par in terms of what they have to offer for the little ones. Now my question is :
Pallavan is 24K costlier than Kara in the first year for 1 child, which is huge difference when combined for both the kids.
So if anyone can tell me, what is the remarkable feature of Pallavan that make it stand-out of other play schools. Because in terms of kids care, learning, cleanliness, I gave Kara also the same points, it will help me in finalizing my decision.

Hi.. would anyone be able to help me with baby shops in Gurgaon - I need to pick up some feeding accessories and stuff.. any ideas? thanks..

Manika said...

Shahana,

YOu could try:

Dezine kids in DT Mega Mall. They have everything you would need but I've never liked the staff there...very stuck up but I guess you don't need to bother too much about that. Another place is Pearl in Galleria. Much smaller and less organized but still have a lot of things and better staff.

Manika

Soumya said...

@Shahana - DT Mega Mall has several baby shops - Dezine as Manika has pointed out,Littles(we mostly shop for feeding stuff/accessories from here),KidStuff,Children's World etc. Pearls in Galleria is great too but they didn't have a couple of imported creams that I like using for the baby-Sudocrem and a non-fluoride toothpaste to be precise.. If you stay on Sohna Rd, Omaxe Mall has a shop Golden Bubbles which also stocks decent kidstuff...

Shahana said...

Thanks Manika,
But I just shopped at Gurgaon Central where there is an Italian baby brand called Chicco on the first floor... the staff couldn't offer much info but I picked up some really far out stuff and then googled an online check.. it is amazingly informative and a lot of products I had no idea existed! A must check for all people with babies, if you ask me.. (will visit Pearl too when in Galleria next!)

Little footprint - HORRIBLE PLACE TO PUT YOUR KID...

My daughter who was barely 18 months old was put there..That place is anything but hygenic.. Except for one old lady, all the others are absolute losers. They treat kids like stuffed toys. They are very insensitive to the kids requirements. It is OK for kids who are grownups, but kids who are in the agegroup of 12months to 24 months, please DO NOT PUT THEM there.

- The teacher (so-called) are absolutely unprofessional and have no feelings towards the kids. They have such a dead pan expression.
- The maids are supposed to be assigned for small kids who cannot manage by themselves. The maids change every 3-4 days. How is the baby supposed to adjust to this change?
- Food that they claim to give - it is all BULL SHIT.. they just give half of it.
- Very insensitive towards the kids development. They just play some random music and ask the kids to dance. Well, if it fun for some kids, but is that it? They should play some rhymes or things that can help child development. It is absolutely lacking.

FOLKS, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR KID TO THESE BUNCH OF INSENSITIVE PEOPLE....There are better places.. but this is definitely the WORST!!!

hi vijay,
I am quite surprised with your comments. My kids have been going to little footprints for quite some time and I have had a great experience. In fact my daughter has virtually grown up there since she was 3 and a half months. She is 20 months now. Never were the maids changed without consulting with me and the lady who is running the place has been receptive to feedback each time i have shared with her. i would highly recommend Little Footprints as a caring day care and the staff/maids is good. They are considerate towards working parents and even if you are late in picking your child, at least 2 people-- a maid and the lady who runs the place are there with the child till you reach.

• My child has been going to little footprints day care for the past 3 years and has practically grown up there. There is no problem with the food as suggested by some above. In fact they serve a complete diet according to my pediatrician. She has never faced any health concerns during her stay at the day care. In fact she is so fond of the meals there that she has insisted on having similar food at home. Every child is an open book if you talk to them, she has shared wonderful experiences of her stay at the day care with me. The maids are also looked after well and they undergo routine de-worming and amoebiasis treatment, a detailed report of which is given to us on regular basis.

The names we have heard so far are Sixth Element, Little Footprints, Pumpkin House, Intellitots and Pallavan. Apart from Pallavan, all other are kinda nearby. Please suggest with your experience as to which school is the best here. Thanking all in advance.

My son has been attending the REading and writing program there in the evening and there has been a marked improvement in his performance in school since he started. So I would say do visit the school and check them out.

In aug 2008, I made a comment very simillar to what you wrote yesterday Amit. I was new to gurgaon and depended on this forum to make a very important choice for my son. I chose Little Footprints from where he 'graduated' last year. He is now 4.5 years old and in the last 3years through him I have met kids who belong to various play schools and observed their personality and development/knowledge/skills level. After all this 'experience', my hubby and I have reached the conclusion that for our daughter who turns 2.4 yrs in April this year there is no better play school than Little Footprints. This is not to say that others are not good, its just to say that having experienced this play school we feel totally and completely satisfied and assured that our kid is in safe and good hands. Thanks

Thanx a ton Anika and Shuchi. I too am a bit more inclined towards Intellitots than any other preschool. I liked Little Footprints too Shuchi but the only drawback i personally thought was that it is quite big in size and they have around 190 kids there. So personalized attention to a child is a bit of a question. Secondly, i thought that it was not one of the most well-kept/clean schools around. I may be completely wrong here but that's what i felt. I still haven't visited Intellitots yet but will do so this week. Let's pray for the best. Once again, thank you both. Regards.

Alpna, My child was very traumatised in his first preschool so much so that he was afraid of the word 'school' so I decided to pull him out. This was six months ago. At that point I had visited all the 4 schools that you mentioned and evaluated each with a really close eye. I finally decided on Intellitots. And I can say that it was the best decision that I made. They have only 14 kids in one class with 2 teachers and one dedicated maid so the amount of attention each child gets is really high. The teachers really helped Krish get over his fear of school and now he loves going to school so much that he wants to go to Intellitots on weekends as well. I would say that it is worth the distance you will travel.

This has been such a useful blog for me as a new mom who moved to Gurgaon 10 months ago. Thank you. Based on on some of the discussions here I took my child for the Intellitots parent toddler program and fell in love with the school. More than me, my daughter did not want to leave the school. Since then she has been with the Intellitots preschool and daycare. Now I am getting nervous about big school admissions.
