Eating Out this Summer: Park Plaza

One of the few places I’ve seen that offer a brilliant buffet meal is the Park Plaza hotel near Phase IV, DLF in Gurgaon. The hotel itself is pretty good – I think it’s a 3 or 4-star place, but I’ve never really had reason to stay there. We do, however, go there for dinner pretty often, especially on summer evenings. This is because they offer a soup, salad, and dessert buffet that’s very high on the yummy scale and fairly high on the value-for-money scale as well. For 500 bucks a head, you can get a choice of the veg/non-veg soup of the day, a wide range of veg/non-veg cold salads (which, if you’re lucky, even includes chaat in all it’s spicy yummy glory), and the absolute best in desserts. Don’t even get me started on the desserts! The best ones are those little fruit jello things and soufflés they serve in shot glasses – the portion sizes are just right so you can sample pretty much all of them. They always have a good range – from fresh fruit with whipped cream, to chocolatey and creamy desserts, to a decent range of Indian desserts like gulab jamuns and kulfis.

The really good thing is that this buffet is on till about 2 a.m., so if you’ve spent the evening lounging around at home with friends and forgotten to cook, you can just get up and head over there!

If you’re in the mood for a full meal, you can pay Rs 850 a head and add the main course to the menu as well. That’s pretty good too, but I’d really recommend just the soup, salad, and dessert one because there’s no way you’ll be hungry for more once you’ve worked through that table.

Speaking of late night meals, the other thing you can get at Park Plaza if you happen to be there at around 12:30 am is a midnight biryani buffet, which is essentially all you can eat biryani for something like Rs. 100 or 125 a head. It’s a really good deal – I think they started it for the call center crowd that gets off work around then.

I read a quote somewhere that said, “Of all things that are not food, love has got to be the best.” Let’s leave love for another post. Of all things that are food, thank me for recommending this menu when you go :-)

I have not tried their Rs 500 soup/salad/dessert deal .. but did try their kabab and meal deal for Rs 850 [or wasn't it 1100 or so] and found it so so .. frankly tasteless and boring. Eating salads has been laden with health risks in India in general .. even in 5 star hotels I have found not so fresh and clean leaves.

The best deal in that respect is actually Bar B Q Nation DELISH for such a reasonable price .. Rs 500 for all you can eat YUMMY kababs / YUMMY gorgeous buffet plus if you go for Sunday lunch .. beer or mocktails. Plus they do vary their menu .. so it's fun .. The food has distinct flavours .. fresh .. mutton is always chunky and meaty .. and BIG .. check it out.
